XXV

For the purpose of her work, Red went to her mother, White.
She wished to conceive and bear a child, and so required power.
“For I was made when you shared your power with my father.”
“You are my mother, surely you can do the same for me.”

This would be quite impossible for a human woman and her daughter.
But these are gods, and White is a god who embraces impossibilities.
White gave her power with a kiss, and Red took it all.
Changing her body to foster life, Red set a seed inside herself.

The seed developed into a child, mixing Grandmother White and Mother Red.
Fire and destruction mingled in Red’s body as it had never before.
Yet it was tempered by White’s nature, vast and gentle and feminine.
And so Red gave birth to a daughter, a pale new color.
